Nearly always something small, and worth ten minutes of checks. Jay-D 2.0 is assembled with the screwdriver in its box — no soldering — so the checks are about power, seating and software.
1. Check the power. Power it exactly the way the final step of the build guide shows, and compare the power connections against the guide photographs. If any part of the board gets hot, switch it off, unplug everything and stop there — email us instead of testing further.
2. Compare the build against the guide. Open the Jay-D 2.0 build guide at circuitmess.com/blogs/resources and check each connection against the photographs — especially the speakers and the screen, and that the knobs, sliders and button caps sit straight rather than pinning a control down.
On the screen ribbon specifically: connectors vary between boards — on some the latch lifts up, on others there is no latch at all and the ribbon simply pushes straight in until it stops. If yours has no moving part, that is normal. Never force the ribbon, and avoid reseating it more times than you need to.
3. Restore the firmware from code.circuitmess.com on a desktop computer running Chrome, Edge or Opera. That rules out interrupted software and puts the mixer back to how it shipped.
If the screen works but it complains about the card — "Not inserted!" or "Empty!" — that is its own subject, covered in My Jay-D 2.0 says "Empty!" or "Not inserted!".
