These two messages mean different things, and the fix is different for each.
"Not inserted!" means Jay-D cannot read the card at all. The card is missing, not pushed in fully, damaged, or formatted in a filesystem Jay-D cannot read. Switch off, take the card out and push it back in until it clicks. If that does not help, the most common cause is formatting: the card must be FAT32. exFAT will not mount. Reformat as FAT32 on a computer, or go back to the card that came in the box.
"Empty!" means the card is fine but Jay-D found nothing it can play. The card mounted and was read successfully, and the scan found no .aac files anywhere on it. The songs have been deleted, renamed, or replaced with a format Jay-D does not accept. Nothing is wrong with your hardware.
The format Jay-D accepts
AAC only. A file appears in the song list only if its name ends in .aac. MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC and OGG are skipped and will never show up, even though you can see them on the card from your computer. This is the single most common cause of "Empty!".
Mono, 24 kHz. Jay-D plays at a fixed 24 kHz and does not convert anything. A 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz file plays at the wrong speed and pitch, and a stereo file plays back garbled. Convert to mono at 24 kHz before copying.
64 kbps is the bitrate Jay-D is built around. Other bitrates still play, but the track length and progress bar will be wrong.
No folder required. Files can sit in the root or in any folder at any depth. Jay-D searches the whole card and shows everything in one list.
If the songs really do look like they are still there
Put the card in a computer and check you can open and play the files from there. If the computer cannot read the card either, the card itself has failed and Jay-D is not the problem. A card that is starting to fail can also read as "Empty!" even when files are present.
