What you get by pairing
A paired Butter Bot reads your phone's notifications out loud when you ask, controls your music — play, pause, skip — and tells you the time.
Android
1. Install the app
Get CircuitMess Connect from Google Play. Check the publisher reads CircuitMess under the app name.
2. Grant the permissions
The first time you open the app it shows a Permissions screen, and Continue stays grey until every line reads Granted. This is where most setups stall, so it is worth doing carefully:
- Bluetooth — must be switched on at all
- Bluetooth Scan — lets the app find Butter Bot
- Bluetooth Connect — lets it talk to Butter Bot once found
- Notifications — keeps the app running in the background so the connection stays up
- Notification access — passes your phone's notifications through to Butter Bot
- Display over other apps — lets alerts show over whatever you are doing
The last two send you into your phone's settings. Switch them on there and come back.
3. Wake Butter Bot and keep it close
Turn Butter Bot on, check it has charge, and keep it within arm's reach while you pair.
4. Pair them
Open the app on the Devices screen and tap Start searching devices. A blue badge spins while it looks around. Tap Butter Bot when it appears — it pairs, connects, and drops you back on the Devices screen.
You only pair once. After that Butter Bot stays in your list.
Reconnecting later
Green means connected, red means paired but not connected — usually switched off, out of range or flat. Turn Butter Bot back on and tap it in the list. It will not reconnect on its own; the tap is what does it.
iPhone
There is no app to install. Butter Bot connects straight through your iPhone's Bluetooth settings:
1. Turn Butter Bot on and keep it close to your phone.
2. Open Settings, then Bluetooth, and make sure Bluetooth is on.
3. Tap Butter Bot when it appears in the list of devices.
Once connected, it works the same way: ask it to read your notifications, control your music, or tell you the time.
If Butter Bot doesn't show up
- Check the boring things first: is it on, is it charged, is it near the phone?
- On Android, open the Permissions screen and check every line reads Granted. One missing permission is enough to keep the list empty.
- Already paired to another phone? Butter Bot can only be paired to one phone at a time. On the first phone, tap ••• next to it and choose Unpair, then pair it with the new one.
