MAKERphone 2.0 is our next product and it is not on sale yet. We have been showing it off for a while, and the MAKERphone 2.0 page is where everything we have shown so far lives.
It is a phone you build yourself, and unlike the original MAKERphone it needs no soldering.
The $1 reservation
You can reserve a unit for $1. That does three things:
You hear first. We tell people holding a reservation before we tell anyone else, so you are not relying on catching a social post on the right day.
It holds your place. A reservation also locks in the launch price against the planned retail price. The terms of the launch offer are published on the product page, which is where we keep them current.
You get into the private community. Reserving gets you access to our private Discord channel and the Facebook group, where we share progress, prototypes and decisions before they are public — and where you can tell us what you want the phone to do while there is still time to change it.
When is it launching?
We do not have a firm date to give you yet. The current timing is on the product page, which is where we keep it up to date.
We will be sharing a lot more detail as we get closer, and reservation holders get it first.
What we cannot confirm yet
The specification is still moving, so we are not going to publish numbers that later change. What the product page does already say: it is a working 4G phone that makes calls, and you program it in MicroPython or C++. What we are not publishing yet is the detail underneath that — SIM formats and network bands, and exactly which modules are in the box. If one of those is what decides it for you, message us here, or email [email protected], and tell us what you need it to do — we would rather answer you properly than have you reserve on an assumption.
