The Mars Exploration Bundle page lists four items:
Mars Perseverance Rover, the NASA-themed rover you build yourself
Add-ons, the Mars Rover expansion modules
Artemis Watch 2.0, the NASA-themed smartwatch
Tools Pack, the soldering and hand tools the Rover build needs
Only the Rover is a build. The Artemis Watch 2.0 ships fully assembled. Charge it with the cable in its box and start using it; there is no soldering and no assembly step for the watch. The hands-on part of the watch is coding it, not building it.
The Rover is the long project, and it is a soldering project. Plan on spending around 20 hours assembling it, with a great deal of soldering along the way. That is why a Tools Pack is one of the four items in the bundle: among its nine items are a soldering iron, lead-free solder, a soldering tip and stand, cutter pliers and a screwdriver. If nobody in the house has soldered before, allow some time to practise before starting on the Rover boards. What each step calls for is set out in What tools do I need to build the Mars Rover?.
The Rover runs on six AA batteries — see My kit didn't come with batteries. Is that a mistake?.
No prior experience in electronics or robotics is needed for the Rover. The build guide takes you through it step by step and has over 100 photos. It is published online rather than as a booklet in the box, so you follow it on a screen, or print it yourself if you would rather work from paper — see Printing the Mars Rover build guide.
The Rover kit is recommended for ages 11 and up, as is the bundle as a whole. The Artemis Watch is generally recommended for ages 9 and up.
The watch pairs with your smartphone over Bluetooth and tracks your daily activity. You can also code custom watch faces, games and applications for it.
If only part of the bundle arrives, check your emails for a second tracking number before assuming anything is lost. Bundles often ship from more than one regional warehouse, so they travel as separate parcels at no extra cost to you, and they can arrive days apart. If the tracking shows everything delivered and an item still has not turned up, message us here, or email [email protected], with your order number and a photo of everything that did arrive, including the packaging. Anything missing from the box is replaced free of charge.
