Charging ports take a lot of use, and one working loose is among the more common things to happen to them. It is not something you have done wrong.
If you are comfortable with a soldering iron, the port can be resoldered. The photo below shows the joints involved. Once the pads are properly wetted and nothing is bridged across them, the board should charge as it did before.
