A Spencer that will not start is frustrating, and the cause is usually a single solder joint that has not quite taken, which is a five-minute fix.
Work through these checks first:
Look along the pin headers for two neighbouring pads joined by a blob of solder, and for loose solder sitting anywhere on the board.
Check each joint from the underside. A good joint is a small, shiny cone that covers the whole pad and the bottom of the pin. A dull grey ball sitting on top of the pad has not flowed and needs reheating.
Reheat anything you are unsure of for a second or two with the iron and add a little fresh solder.

Then power Spencer up again. If it still will not start, email us at [email protected] with your order number and a clear photo of both sides of the board, and we will tell you what we can see. Spencer is no longer in production, but we still support the units we sold.
